Midway International Airport

The exterior envelope of Midway’s terminal building utilized several cladding systems, including brick masonry, metal panels, and curtain walls. The glass and aluminum curtain walls were constructed from a unitized system with framing units fabricated off site. After frames were erected, the system was field glazed with interior and exterior wedge glazing gaskets. RRJ was asked to examine performance of the curtain wall.

RRJ’s tests revealed nonperformance issues around water penetration and further investigation determined its cause. RRJ developed repair procedures and retested to verify compliance.

How RRJ helped

  • Perform verification testing involving in situ air infiltration and water penetration
  • Investigate curtain wall construction
  • Develop repair procedures
