The former Agrium potash processing facility is located near Saskatoon at the shaft entrance to a productive potash ore mine. During a large-scale expansion of the facility in 2012-2013 that involved construction of several new steel-framed industrial buildings, questions arose regarding the adequacy of the high-strength bolted connections installed extensively throughout the construction.
RRJ was retained to perform an engineering evaluation of issues involving the installation of high-strength structural bolts used in the construction. RRJ evaluated project documents, code requirements, industry standard practices, and extensive reference data related to the adequacy and reliability of slip-critical bolt installation and developed recommendations for reasonable methods to mitigate reliability concerns.
Agrium, Inc. and Potash Corporation merged in 2017 to establish a global agricultural giant under the company name of Nutrien.
