Pritzker Family Children's Zoo Building

The awarding-winning Pritzker Family Children’s building is located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo.  Built in 2005, the 105,220 square foot zoo structure marries expert animal care, interactive learning elements, and tactile experiences, teaching visitors of all ages about the interdependency of living things and connecting with wildlife.  Many immersive, glass viewing areas and exhibits enable visitors to get close to animals and observe their species-specific terrestrial and aquatic behaviors.

The building features include: an indoor area with native Illinois amphibians, reptiles, and birds; a 20-foot Polk Brothers Treetop Canopy Climbing Adventure; which children can scale two stories into the air; a Wild Saplings Play Forest, an accessible nature play space; and four expansive outdoor exhibit spaces for endangered red wolves, North American black bears, river otters, and beavers.

RRJ was retained during construction to perform in place water penetration testing on a portion of a newly installed curtain wall area and a section of clerestory windows of the building.
