University of Notre Dame Football Stadium Expansion

RRJ’s investigations revealed significant design and construction deficiencies, the mitigation of which formed the basis for RRJ’s repair design. The repair program consisted of:

  • Removal and replacement of significant concourse, ramp, and stair landing topping slab portions due to cracking and delamination, as well as for installation of supplemental reinforcing steel such that these areas could function as structural
  • Repair and supplementation of precast shear wall connections
  • Removal and resetting of all rail posts and patching adjacent concrete substrate throughout the stadium
  • Patching extensive areas of concrete distress within the Old Bowl

RRJ provided full-time site presence to monitor the work that was performed over a four-year period and document additional existing conditions revealed during the course of the repair program.

The repairs restored the stadium’s required structural strength and stability, its expected and intended long-term durability, and gave the University a facility with reasonable maintenance requirements.
