Dayton Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse

This federal building had been experiencing chronic seal failures of the insulated glass units and water infiltration problems related to the curtain wall and windows. RRJ was retained through GSA’s consulting architect to perform an evaluation of the original curtain wall and glazing system to determine the cause for nonperformance and to make recommendations for either corrective work or replacement.

A detailed study was conducted to identify the problems associated with the curtain wall design, glazing system, and installation. RRJ performed diagnostic water penetration testing to isolate water entry locations and leakage paths. Concealed as-built conditions of the envelope and curtain wall system were examined and evaluated through partial disassembly and nondestructive means.

RRJ prepared a formal report summarizing the study’s findings and recommended remedial alternatives be pursued. Assistance in developing schematic alternatives was provided to the GSA’s architect for developing repair solutions.
