Walker Art Center

The Walker Art Center is a multidisciplinary contemporary art museum located on a 17-acre urban campus. The center’s 260,000 square foot, eight-story building, encompasses 10 art galleries along with a cinema, theater, shop, restaurant, cafe, and special events spaces and lecture rooms. The museum had recently undergone a roof replacement project over the gallery portion of the building resulting in visible leakage damage in several interior spaces within the galleries.

RRJ was retained by the museum to investigate and determine the cause of the water leakage associated with the roof replacement effort. RRJ conducted a field investigation and destructive sampling of the roof in several areas and a review of the roof replacement drawings and specifications.

The findings of the investigation confirmed several defects in the roof design details along with construction-related defects. RRJ assisted the architect and other consultants with repair recommendation options and a peer review of the roof repair and replacement construction documents.
